Guimaraes Historisch centrum

De historische binnenstad van Guimaraes wordt geassocieerd met het ontstaan van de Portugese nationale identiteit in de 12e eeuw. An exceptionally well preserved and authentic example of the evolution of a Medieval settlement into a modern town, its rich building typology exemplifies the specific development of Portuguese architecture from the 15th to 19th century through the consistent use of traditional building materials and techniques. Een uitzonderlijk goed bewaard en authentieke voorbeeld van de evolutie van een middeleeuwse nederzetting in een moderne stad, haar rijke gebouw typologie illustreert de specifieke ontwikkeling van de Portugese architectuur uit de 15de tot de 19de eeuw door het consequente gebruik van traditionele bouwmaterialen en-technieken.
